CELL MEMORY
12.06 - 04.07.2008

Valentina Raenko is ethnic Ukrainian, who lives and works in USA. The main theme in her creative work, concerned to cell memory as an information holder of all our ancestry, is not accidental.

According to nowadays research, DNA holds all knowledge about previous generations, down to very first human being.

Images of Valentina Roenko are elusive: here is concrete man, here is his portrait, moreover, all his history looks at us. The idea is simple, but everything is more complicated, than it seems. Firstly, position of the portraits is important. Secondly, a material strengthens the feeling of "naturalness", authenticity and archaism.

Roenko's is an artist, her creative method is realistic, and by nature, she is philanthropist. All her images appeal to memory, very intimate human memory, but, at the same time, it is understandable, universal things. She moves from complicated to simple and vise versa.

"Information penetrates us all the way through, as the cosmic wind, and settles in our DNA"- says Roenko. Therefore, it is not important where do you live and what language do you speak - all the information needed is inside us.

At the exhibition in "ZEH", Roenko has showed about dozen compositions, which consist from the portraits. This is her "art-researches" about humanity and its memory. They performed in textiles technique, literally confirming, that we all are made of the same DNA "thread".
